Simon ‘Hoots’ Huitenga raced yesterday in the Mens 10km race.
Through the beautiful sites of the Barcelona Harbour there was no time to look with a sizzling pace for the race. With constant updates from coach Matt Magee and Perth City Facebook Queen Heidi Gan it was almost like we were there.
After the first lap Hoots was sitting 19th with only 10secs between first and twentieth. Playing it smart not to get pulled into the sizzling pace too early.
Lap 2 and 55 minutes into the race Hoots had moved to 8th with Rhys Mainstone-Hodson leading. The pack so big Hoots dug deep and powered through to finish in an outstanding 12th place and first Australian.
Well done Hoots we are all very proud of you.
Heidi Gan finished just a few minutes ago in the Womens 10km race.
Coach Magee texted to say, “Halfway and still fast! Heidi still in the mix, sitting around 40 in first pack. Toughest marathon I’ve ever seen! Fast!!!”
Heidi finished 29th and only 42 secs off the leader. A fast race and under the 2 hours.
Well done Heidi!
