Amongst all the excitement of the recent Australian National Swimming Championship events, Kiera Hughes of the Perth City State Squad has been racing fast and blitzing records at home!

Kiera recently competed in the Perth College Junior School house carnival where she competed in all the 50m distances and the 100m freestyle, tying for 1st place as Year 6 Champion Girl. Her times were exceptional, especially considering that she has excelled academically which has enabled her to skip a year of school.

Kiera swam the 50m Butterfly in a blistering 40.26 which was just outside 2016 Olympian Brianna Throssell’s Year 6 school record and was a whole 5 seconds faster than the Year 5 record from 2013.

The meet was a breakthrough for Kiera who has been training hard with coach Sabrina over the past few months.

A huge congratulations to Kiera on her hard work and the results she is starting to achieve. We are sure this will be the first of many highlights for Kiera.
