2016 Junior State Championships

Last weekend saw 25 Junior Perth City team members take part in the 2016 Junior State Championships at the HBF Stadium.

With a whopping 139 entries over the 2 days of competition, a total of 97 PB’s were made. That’s a 70% strike rate! It was great to see so many junior swimmers and parents at the pool creating a fantastic vibe among team Perth City by cheering and supporting each other throughout the weekend. (On that note, if anyone is interested in getting hold of some Perth City supporters gear, order yours on the Perth City website.

As always, Perth City had a strong presence in the relays with all swimmers coming together showing great team spirit and camaraderie in true Perth City fashion. Special mention to Emily Holland, Kathryn Raffelt, Kate Harrison and Kara Leeming for setting a new State record for the Girls 11-12 4 x 50m Medley Relay! Additionally, Kate Harrison was named the 11&O female swimmer of the meet after setting two state records and collecting10 gold medals!

Junior States can be a very daunting experience for many first timers, and the way the older athletes and coaches encouraged and supported these swimmers among others was terrific. Great to see we are building a strong club culture from the junior level!

Huge congratulations must go to the Perth City coaching team of Jon Harrison, Deb Jones (who was attending the State Teams event on the same weekend), Maddi Moutia and Eoin Carroll for getting the swimmers prepared and race ready throughout the weekend and all the parents and volunteers who went out and supported our swimmers and did their bit for the Club – a very successful meet!

The long weekend also saw some of our Age Group chargers together with Perth City officials, coach and team managers take to Canberra competing in the State Teams event. Congratulations to Chloe Green, Claire Coten, Jordan Davis, Kelsey Eastwood, Kalani Ireland, Lachlan Joyce, Anna Monaghan, Miki Ryan, Reilly Kennedy, Taj Jones, Deb Jones, Will Rollo, Penny Rollo, Simon Holland and Sam Coten.

Additionally, Perth City had four members competing at the Australian University Games this week. Congratulations to Jackson Govers, Georgia Truscott, Kate Bird and Mel Kennedy!

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK ALL! #cityfast #gotsome
